Marriage Consent

The below is derived from a compilation located at https://www.bahai.org/beliefs/life-spirit/character-conduct/articles-resources/compilation-family-life-marriage :

The consent of the parents of those wishing to enter into marriage is also required. Bahá’u’lláh writes that, “once the couple’s wish is known”, marriage is “conditioned…upon the permission of their parents”. ‘Abdu’l-Bahá explains:

As for the question regarding marriage under the Law of God: first thou must choose one who is pleasing to thee, and then the matter is subject to the consent of father and mother. Before thou makest thy choice, they have no right to interfere.

And:

In regard to your question concerning the nature and character of Bahá’í marriage. As you have rightly stated, such a Marriage is conditioned upon the full approval of all four parents. Also your statement to the effect that the principle of the oneness of mankind prevents any true Bahá’í from regarding race itself as a bar to union is in complete accord with the Teachings of the Faith on this point

Shoghi Effendi provides the following comments on this provision in a letter written on his behalf:

Bahá’u’lláh has clearly stated the consent of all living parents is required for a Bahá’í marriage. This applies whether the parents are Bahá’ís or non-Bahá’ís, divorced for years or not. This great law He has laid down to strengthen the social fabric, to knit closer the ties of the home, to place a certain gratitude and respect in the hearts of the children for those who have given them life and sent their souls out on the eternal journey towards their Creator.

on death

Thus it is seen that some, under extreme pressure of anguish, have committed suicide. As to him rest assured; he will be immersed in the ocean of pardon and forgiveness and will become the recipient of bounty and favor.
(‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Bahá’í World Faith, p. 378-379)

“To consider that after the death of the body the spirit perishes,” ‘Abdu’l-Bahá has said “is like imagining that a bird in a cage will be destroyed if the cage is broken, though the bird has nothing to fear from the destruction of the cage. Our body is like the cage, and the spirit is like the bird…if the cage becomes broken, the bird will continue and exist. Its feelings will be even more powerful, its perceptions greater, and its happiness increased…”1

writes Bahá’u’lláh, “is as different from this world as this world is different from that of the child while still in the womb of its mother.”

“Thou art My dominion and My dominion perisheth not; wherefore fearest thou thy perishing? Thou art My light and My light shall never be extinguished; why dost thou dread extinction? Thou art My glory and My glory fadeth not; thou art My robe and My robe shall never be outworn.”6

“32: O SON OF THE SUPREME! I have made death a messenger of joy to thee….”

O SON OF THE SUPREME! I have made death a messenger of joy to thee. Wherefore dost thou grieve? I made the light to shed on thee its splendor. Why dost thou veil thyself therefrom?

the mind

"How can feeble reason encompass the Qur’án,
Or the spider snare a phoenix in his web?
Wouldst thou that the mind should not entrap thee?
Teach it the science of the love of God!"

my name-sake, Mr. Faizi, concerning Shoghi Effendi

The Guardian did his utmost to make us happy and hopeful about our future. He taught us the lesson of detachment and breathed in us the spirit of servitude to the divine Threshold. We loved him beyond measure and never wanted to part with him. The days we spent in the Guardian’s presence were like rays of sunshine penetrating the rest of our dark lives, and the memory of those blissful days is still a source of spiritual nourishment and inspiration.

The loyal soul

“To the loyal soul, a test is but God’s grace and favour; for the valiant doth joyously press forward to furious battle on the field of anguish”

1 Corinthians 1:27-29King James Version (KJV)
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
